Side event of the Summit G22

As part of the side events of the G20 Summit a thematic session titled “From Risk to Resilience: Scaling Up Investment in Disaster Risk Reduction” was held on 21 November. The event brought together representatives of governments, international organizations, and experts to strengthen global efforts in disaster risk management and to promote investment in resilience-building measures.
The session was chaired by Mr. Velenkosini Hlabisa, South Africa’s Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, who emphasized the importance of preventive action, increased investment in disaster risk reduction, and improved institutional coordination at both national and international levels.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister Hlabisa held a conversation with the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Pretoria, Mr. Saša Mart. The Minister expressed strong interest in enhancing cooperation with Serbia in areas of mutual importance, particularly in disaster risk management, local development, and inter-institutional coordination. Minister Hlabisa also conveyed his intention to visit Serbia in the near future to explore concrete opportunities for collaboration and the exchange of best practices with relevant Serbian institutions.
