Reception Marking the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia in Pretoria

The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Pretoria hosted a reception at the Residence on 6 March 2026 to mark the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia.



The event brought together more than 250 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Republic of South Africa, representatives of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), members of the Serbian community in South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique, representatives of the business community, as well as numerous guests from political, cultural and public life.
Representing the President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, and the Government of South Africa, the reception was attended by Ms Nondumiso Mandisa Chikvatamba, Deputy Director-General at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. On this occasion, she conveyed congratulations on the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia.
Ms Chikvatamba is scheduled to travel to Belgrade on 7 March as part of the South African delegation to participate in the Second Preparatory Meeting for the Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2027, which will be held in Belgrade.
Among the distinguished guests was also Bishop Timotheos of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, attending as the special envoy of Metropolitan Damaskinos of Johannesburg, together with clergy of local Orthodox churches.
The reception took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere and provided an opportunity to highlight the strong and friendly relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of South Africa, as well as Serbia’s cooperation with other countries of the Southern African region, while further strengthening ties with the Serbian community in the region.
