The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of South Africa, Saša Mart, attended a commemorative wreath-laying ceremony held on 26 March 2026 at Freedom Park, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Peru in honour of Javier Pérez de Cuéllar.
The ceremony paid tribute to the life and legacy of Pérez de Cuéllar, who served as the fifth Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1982 to 1991. He played a key role in advancing global diplomacy, notably contributing to peace efforts such as the Iran–Iraq ceasefire and supporting Namibia’s path to independence. His historic engagement with Nelson Mandela following Mandela’s release in 1990 was also highlighted, reflecting his enduring commitment to human rights and reconciliation.
