Commemoration of Human Rights Day
The event brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of civil society, marking an important occasion dedicated to honoring the struggle for human rights, freedom, and dignity. The ceremony was held under the auspices of the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Gayton McKenzie.
The keynote address was delivered by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa. He highlighted the historical significance of Human Rights Day and called on all sectors of society – government, business, labour, and civil society – to work together to address unemployment, poverty, and social ills such as gender-based violence, crime, and substance abuse.
“The faith that moved the drafters of the Constitution – the people of South Africa – lives on today. Let us continue together towards a South Africa of true equality, where the dignity of all is not an aspiration, but a reality,” emphasized President Ramaphosa.
On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Mart met with President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr. Gayton McKenzie, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms. Mandisa Chikwatamba, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, Mr. Alvin Botes.
Ambassador Mart’s participation underscores the strong and friendly relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of South Africa, as well as their shared commitment to human rights, multilateralism, and international cooperation.
