Commemoration of the Day of Reconciliation in South Africa
The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of South Africa, Mr Saša Mart, attended the main national commemoration of the Day of Reconciliation, held on December 16, at the Ncome Museum in Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal Province.
The keynote address was delivered by the President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, who emphasized that 16 December remains a powerful moment for the nation to confront its painful past with honesty, while reaffirming its commitment to a shared, peaceful and inclusive future.
President Ramaphosa underlined that this year’s return to Ncome was not intended to reopen old wounds, but rather to reaffirm a promise to future generations that South Africa shall never again be divided by hatred, injustice or exclusion.
The commemoration was held under the theme “Reaffirming Reconciliation for Future Generations” and was led by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government.
By attending this significant national event, Ambassador Mart reaffirmed the Republic of Serbia’s respect for the values of dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, as well as its commitment to further strengthening friendly relations and cooperation with the Republic of South Africa.
