Ambassador of Serbia Visits the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg

The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of South Africa, Saša Mart, visited the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg, where he met with the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mbongiseni Buthelezi, to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation with institutions in the Republic of Serbia.

During the cordial and constructive meeting, special attention was devoted to potential cooperation in the fields of culture, education, heritage preservation, and the promotion of the values of peace, dialogue, and social justice that underpin the work of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Ambassador Mart highlighted the important role of the Museum of African Art in Belgrade, a unique institution in Europe that has for decades promoted the cultural heritage of the African continent and contributed significantly to strengthening cultural ties between Serbia and African countries. The interlocutors discussed possibilities for cooperation between the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Museum of African Art through exchanges of expertise, exhibitions, and joint projects.

The discussion also underscored the importance of South Africa’s participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade, which will provide an additional platform to showcase South Africa’s achievements, cultural heritage, and development potential, while further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Ambassador Mart briefed the Foundation’s leadership on preparations for EXPO 2027 Belgrade and emphasized its significance as a global platform for cooperation, innovation, and intercultural dialogue.

Mr. Buthelezi welcomed initiatives aimed at enhancing institutional and cultural cooperation and expressed the Foundation’s readiness to explore concrete avenues of collaboration with partners in Serbia.
