24. Jun 2026.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to South Africa Saša Mart attended the commemorative concert held on 20 June 2026 at the Wits Great Hall in Johannesburg to mark the 84th birthday of former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki.

Organized by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in partnership with Classics on Turf, the event paid tribute to the legacy of Tiyo Soga, one of the pioneers of the African Renaissance. This time Foundation chose to honor the ideals that have guided his lifelong public service – the conviction that Africa’s renewal begins with the recovery of its historical memory, cultural heritage, and intellectual traditions.

The musical programme was curated by acclaimed Afro-soul and jazz artist Mandisi Dyantyis and featured performances by the Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg and the Renaissance Singers under the direction of conductor Kutlwano Masote.

By attending this significant cultural event, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia reaffirms its commitment to strengthening cultural ties and dialogue with South Africa and to honoring individuals and ideas that have contributed to Africa’s intellectual and cultural renaissance.
