Ambassador Saša Mart Meets South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition

Pretoria, 1 June 2026 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to South Africa, Saša Mart, met with Mpho Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition of the Republic of South Africa.

During the cordial and productive meeting, the two officials discussed ways to further strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and South Africa. They agreed that there is considerable potential for expanding bilateral trade and enhancing cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.

Particular attention was devoted to South Africa’s participation in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade. Ambassador Mart welcomed South Africa’s decision to officially confirm its participation in the exhibition, underlining the importance of South Africa’s presence as one of Serbia’s key economic partners on the African continent. The interlocutors exchanged views on the next steps in the preparations for EXPO 2027, noting that the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, headed by Minister Tau, is responsible for organizing and coordinating South Africa’s participation in the exhibition. In this regard, both sides expressed their readiness to continue close cooperation to ensure a successful and impactful South African presence at EXPO 2027.

Ambassador Mart informed Minister Tau, that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Serbia plans to open an office in Johannesburg in the near future. The interlocutors assessed that this development will mark a turning point in the advancement of bilateral economic relations between the two countries.
